翻身道情用英语怎么说
"翻身道情" (fān shēn dào qíng) is a Chinese idiom that literally means "to turn over and reveal one's feelings". It is used to describe a situation where someone confesses their true feelings or intentions after hiding them for a long time. The idiom is thought to have originated from a story in Chinese literature, in which a man named Fan Li (范蠡) helped his friend Gou Jian (勾践) win back his kingdom. Gou Jian had been defeated by the enemy and was forced to serve as a servant in the enemy's court. In order to regain his power, Gou Jian pretended to be humble and obedient to the enemy, all the while secretly plotting to take back his kingdom. After several years, Gou Jian finally had the opportunity to strike, and he used the occasion to "turn over and reveal his feelings" by attacking and defeating the enemy, thereby reclaiming his kingdom.
Here are some examples of how "翻身道情" could be used in English:
After years of hiding his true feelings, John finally mustered the courage to "turn over and reveal his feelings" to Mary, confessing his love for her.
Despite initially pretending to be loyal to her boss, Sarah eventually "turned over and revealed her feelings" by quitting her job and exposing her boss's unethical behavior to the company.
After years of pretending to be a loyal follower, Tom "turned over and revealed his feelings" by staging a coup and overthrowing the leader of the group.
In English, we might say "to come clean" or "to confess one's true feelings" to convey the same idea as "翻身道情".
