The plane may have run into a heavy fogas it was approaching its destination and had to circle for some twentyminutes. Everything seemed to be going well. The pilot was in constant radiocommunication with control, when the engines suddenly cut out and all contactwas lost. The plane crashed on the site of the ancient Roman camp, a placewell-known to archaeologists and tourists. So far few details have been reported,but it is said that at least twenty people lost their lives. The pilot waskilled instantly. Local ambulances and firemen were on the scene within minutesof the crash, but additional help had to be rushed in from other areas. Mr. John Collin, one of the survivors,told the reporter,“We passengers noticed the engines were making a funny noise.Of course we couldn’t see anything because of the fog. But the pilot said therewas nothing to worry about. The next thing we knew was the engines went dead.There was a rushing noise and a kind of flash and after that I didn’t rememberany more.”
