Shock over Terrorist(恐怖主义)Attacks in the US.

Though it is uncertain what the future holds, we can be sure that the world is no longer the same place that it was a few days ago. These events have grieved(使悲伤)and frightened people worldwide. Leaders from nations all over the globe see these events as an attack on the world and not just the US. In the post-cold war(冷战后)time, terrorism appears as the new danger that threatens(威胁)the whole world.

Early morning, Monday September 11, the US found itself suddenly under terrorist attacks, the worst of its kind in world history. Two hijacked(劫持)airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center in the New York City, one right after the other. The two 110-story buildings, known as the Twin Towers, were completely destroyed. Surrounding buildings, including two of the other World Trade buildings, were also damaged or destroyed. A third hijacked plane crashed into the Pentagon(五角大楼), the building where the US. Department of Defence(国防部)is centered, in Washington D. C. , within the same hour that the World Trade Center was struck. A fourth hijacked plane, failing to carry out its mission(任务), crashed in a wooded area near Pittsurgh, new Jersey.

As soon as the news of attack aired, experts suspected(怀疑)Osama Bin Laden as the mastermind(策划者)behind the attacks. Bin Laden is known for being an anti-American terrorist and extremist(极端主义者)against the US. However, there are many other anti-American groups around the world that could be suspected.
