W: Let's hope for the best.

M: Mrs. Smith, do you like traveling by air?

W: For me there is nothing like traveling by air. It is both speedy and comfortable. Mr. White, there goes the announcement for passengers to board.

M: Oh, good news for you. The plane will take off on time as it is clearing up.

W: I think I must go now. Thank you for coming to see me off, Mr. White.

M: It's a pleasure. Come again. I hope you have a pleasant journey.

W: Thank you. Goodbye.

M: Can you get a baby-sitter for tonight?

W: I don't know. Why?

M: Well, I thought we could go out for dinner and then go to a movie afterwards.

W: I can call Susan and see if she has time.

M: Who is Susan?

W: She lives next door to us. She is a university student.

W: Well, we haven't asked her yet. She once mentioned that she didn't like to babysit during the weekend.

M: But today is the weekend.

W: That's why I say she may be able to come.

M: All right. Do that, and then call me at the office if you have any luck.

W: Okay, but don't get your hopes too high. It's hard to find a good baby-sitter these days. When do you want her to come?

M: Will six o'clock be too early?

W: No. She needs a while to get along with our baby.

W: What does your father do, Bob? Is he a teacher, like you?

M: My dad a teacher? Oh, no. He's a sportscaster, back home in Albany.

W: What's a sportscaster?

M: Someone who describes games over the radio or on TV. My father's on the radio.

W: Back home in-where did you say?

M: Albany, New York.

W: Oh, New York City!

M: No. There's New York State, and there's New York City. Albany is in New York State, about 150 miles from New York city. I was born and brought up there. I went to college there too, at the State University of New York.

W: What did you study while you were at the university?

M: International relations.

W: That's what my brother's studying!

M: Hmm… that's interesting. Do you know yet what you'd like to study?

W: Anything except English. I have a hard time with your language.

M: But your English is excellent. You sound almost like a native.

W: Thank you. I've had to study hard, and I practice a lot because everybody in my family speaks it.

M: Funny. So does everybody in mine.

Nobody Famous

One evening, Mrs. Alda asked her husband to take her to a very expensive restaurant in the city, because a lot of movie stars and other famous people ate there.

Soon after Mr. and Mrs. Alda had ordered. their meal, a very attractive man and woman sat down at a table nearby. Mrs. Alda said to her husband, “Look at those people, George! I'm sure I've seen their pictures somewhere.” When the waiter brought Mr. and Mrs. Alda their soup, Mrs. Alda said to him, “Who are those people? Do you know them?”

“Oh, they're nobody famous,” he answered at once.

“Really?” Mrs. Alda asked with surprise. “How do you know that?”

“Because they asked me who you were,” he answered.
