Wherever they lived, the Jews carefullypreserved their religion and laws, their language and customs. They dreamed totheir homeland, and planned for the day when they could return to it.

After World War Ⅱ, in 1947,they called for dividingPalestine into two states, one Arab and the other Jewish. The Jewish statebecame Israel.
