On May27, 1995, our life was suddenly changed. It happened a few minutes past three, 1myhusband, Chris, fell from his horse as it 2over a fence. Chris wasparalyzed (瘫痪)from the chest down, 3to breathe normally. As he was thrownfrom his horse, we entered into a life of 4with lots of unexpectedchallenges( 挑战). We went from the "haves" tothe “have-nots". Or so we thought.
5what wediscovered later were all the gifts that came out of 6difficulties.We came to learn that something 7could happen in a disaster . Allover the world people 8Chris so much that letters andpostcards poured in every day. By the end of the third week in a 9centerin Virginia, about 35,000 pieces of 10had been received andsorted.
As 11, we opened letter after letter. They gave us 12andbecame a source of strength for us. We used them to 13ourselves. Iwould go to the pile of letters marked with "Funny" if we needed a 14,or to the "Disabled" box to find advice from people in wheelchairs or 15in bed living happily and 16.
These letters, we realized, had to be shared. And so 17weoffer one of them to you.
DearChris,
My husband and I were so sorry to hear of your 18accident lastweek. No doubt your family and your friends are giving you the strength to facethis 19challenge. People everywhere are also giving you bestwishes every day and we are among those who are keeping you 20.
Yours Sincerely,
Nancy Reagan

It was a few minutes past threewhen…,我丈夫骑车摔去的时候,是在三点钟多一点。
2.D
【详解】从文中提到的骑马过栏杆从马上掉下来,动作应当是jump(跳)而不应当是walk(走),climb(爬),pull(拉)。
3.B
【详解】根据意思,胸下瘫痪的人会不能正常呼吸,suitable(适合的),unsuitable(不适合),able(能够),所以选择unable(不能够)。
4.A
disability(残疾),possession(财产,拥有物),convenience(方便),experience(经历,经验)
5.D
6.A
9.A
所以是medical centre(医护中心),选择A。
10.D
【详解】由前文的letters and postcards poured inevery day可以看出这里应当选择mail(邮件)。
11.B
【详解】由we opened letter afterletter(我们打开一封封的信)而前文里提到是my husband摔伤了,说明这里的we是夫妻关系。
12.C
【详解】那些信能给我们的应当是许多comfort(安慰),而不会是effect(效果,影响), effort(努力)或explanation(解释)
13.A
express(表达)
14.B
17.A
选择 here。 Here is some advice foryou. This is VOA. Here is the news from China.
18.D
而不是technical(技术的),valuable(有价值的,宝贵的),different(不同的),所以选择C。
20.B
