The Internationa1 Space Station allows astronauts to live in space for extended

The Internationa1 Space Station allowsastronauts to live in space for extended amounts of time, enabling them toexplore the outside universe and conduct many experiments. However, nothinglike that exists for our oceans, and thanks to the high water pressure, oceanresearchers are able to explore what lies undersea for very short periods oftime.

They aretherefore never able to fully explore the deep inside areas of our oceans. However,if French architect Jacques Rougerie has his way, that will change soon.

Jacques hasdesigned a ship that will allow researchers to spend a long period of timeobserving the sea life and conducting experiments. The huge l67ft. ship, named ‘SeaOrbiter’, consists of two areas—one above the water where the scientists andcrew will live, and a lower pressurized deck (甲板), where scientists will be able to spend as much timeas they wish. Since it is powered by sea currents and wind, he expects it todrift (漂流) along the oceans slowly, taking about twoyears to circumvent the globe.

Jacques willmake their life as comfortable as possible in the ship. Besides being equippedwith the latest sailing tools and communication equipment, the ship will alsohave a gym, a television and a DVD player! And these guys will not be eatingfreeze-dried food like astronauts. Instead, Jacques, an accomplished chef, plans on cooking them delicious meals every day.

The biggestproblem to this giant ship is the cost, which is expected to be over $500million—per ship! However, Jacques, who strongly believes that the secrets ofour oceans may be the key to solving global warming and a vital supply for foodand medicine in the future, is confident he will be able to convince governmentsall over the world to help out, and expects to start construction on not one,but four or five of these amazing ships soon!

【解析】文章主要是对一种新型的用于海底研究的船只的介绍

1.事实细节题,根据第一段and thanks to the high water pressure, ocean researchers are able toexplore what lies undersea for very short periods of time可知,是因为水压导致了研究学者无法研究深海

2.猜测词义题,根据前后句可知,该词意为循环,即go around

3.推理判断题,根据该段 And these guys will not be eating freeze-dried food likeastronauts. Instead, Jacques, an accomplished chef, plans on cooking themdelicious meals every day可知,他们的生活条件要比宇航员要舒服多了

4.事实细节题,根据最后一段Jacques, who strongly believes that the secrets of our oceans may bethe key to solving global warming and a vital supply for food and medicine inthe future,可知,吸引政府建造这种船的注意力不是他们的目的

5.主旨大意题,文章主要是对一种新型的用于海底研究的船只的介绍
