M：Hello．International Friends Club．Can I help you?
W：Oh, hello．I read about your club in the paper today and I thought I’d phone to find out a bit more．
M：Yes, certainly．Well, we’re a sort of social club for people from different countries．It’s quite a new club－we have about 50 members at the moment but we’re growing all the time．
W：That sounds interesting．I’m British actually, and I came to Washington about three months ago．I’m looking for ways to meet people．Er, what kind of events do you organize?
M：Well, we have social get-togethers, and sports events, and also have language evenings．
W：Could you tell me something about the language evenings?
M：Yes, every day except Thursday we have a language evening．People can come and practise their languages．We have different languages on different evenings．Monday－Spanish; Tuesday－Italian; Wednesday－German; and Friday－French．On Thursday we usually have a meal in a restaurant for anyone who wants to come．
W：Well, that sounds great．I really need to practise my French．
M：OK．Well, if you can just give me your name and address, I’ll send you the form and some more information．If you join now you can have the first month free．

Conversation 3
W：I hear that your wife works in a bank and she has worked there for five years．Is that true?
M：No．Three years more than that．She is an experienced accountant and is regarded highly among her colleagues．
W：You said it．How about asking her to work in our bank? She is sure to be put in an even more important position．
M：Good idea．Great minds think alike．
Questions 7 through 9 are based on Conversation Four．You now have 15 seconds to read the questions．
Conversation 4
M：Here we are．This is it．I know it’s smaller than you wanted, but it’s one of the nicest flats in the building．
W：Does it have three bedrooms?
M：No, there are two．The master room is quite large though．Maybe you could let the children share the larger room, and you and your husband could use the smaller one．
W：I suppose I could do that．A three-bedroom flat will be difficult to find．I’ve been looking for one over a week．The first three-bedroom flats I found are all extremely expensive．You said that the rent would be 350 dollars a month．
M：Yes．It includes gas．You see, electricity and water are quite inexpensive．
W：Well, but before I sign all agreement, I would like my husband to see it．
M：Why not stop by with him this morning? Our office is open until seven o’clock．
W：OK．See you then．
