Star Trek: Discovery and Captain Marvel actor Kenneth Mitchell’s final wish for his burial has been revealed in a moving poem.

一首感人的诗揭露了《星际迷航：发现号》和《惊奇队长》演员肯尼斯·米歇尔的最后愿望。

The actor, who played various characters in Star Trek: Discovery and appeared as Joseph Danvers in Captain Marvel, died aged 49 following complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), his family announced on X and Instagram.

这位演员在《星际迷航：发现号》中饰演过各个角色，并在《惊奇队长》中饰演Joseph Danvers ，他的家人通过X和Instagram宣布，他因肌萎缩侧索硬化症(ALS)并发症去世，享年49岁。

He had lived with the disease for five years after being diagnosed.

In a poem titled Connect, written by Mitchell, he shared that he wanted to become a tree after his death.

在米歇尔写的一首名为《Connect》的诗中，他分享说他死后想变成一棵树。

‘When I die, when I leave this life, I want to become a tree, a Gingko, White pine, Jacaranda, Lemon, Cedar, Oak, Myrtle or Maple,’ he wrote.

The poem, which was published on his Instagram page, continues: ‘I want to be buried under the roots so I can be soaked up, all my matter, my energy, my love, my laughter, my tears and I want to reach up through the branches and touch the night sky.

Mitchell said he wanted children to climb on him, students to lean on him, and animals to eat his fruit, as well as one day being carved into a canoe.

He concluded connect with: ‘Take my hand, my brand, my paddle, my drum and dance with me… forever!’

Mitchell, who also played Eric Green in the CBS post-apocalyptic action drama Jericho and The Astronaut Wives Club, first revealed his ALS diagnosis in 2020.

ALS is a fatal type of motor neuron disease characterised by progressive degeneration of nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain, according to John Hopkins Medicine.

Mitchell said he first started developing symptoms in 2018 after experiencing constant twitching in his muscles, initially believing it was a pinched nerve.

‘The moment that they told us it was [ALS] it was like I was in my own movie,’ Mitchell recalled to People Magazine.

‘That’s what it felt like, like I was watching that scene where someone is being told that they have a terminal illness. It was just a complete disbelief, a shock.’

Mitchell, who began using a wheelchair in 2019, said that showrunners began creating roles specifically for him, including a role in the Jeff Bridges’ drama The Old Man.
