Plumb, 37, learned of his fate at Chelmsford Crown court on Thursday after denying soliciting murder, incitement to rape and incitement to kidnap. He will be sentenced next Friday, July 12.

The court trial of shopping centre security officer Gavin Plumb, from Harlow, Essex, has continued at Chelmsford Crown Court. He has denied all of the charges.

On Thursday June 27, an undercover police officer, being referred to by the pseudonym David Nelson, appeared via video-link in court, with no image displayed to ‘protect his identity’ and ‘his personal safety as well as his family’.

The US-based officer explained that he came across Plumb in an online group called ‘Abduct Lovers’, as his line of work involves him searching for examples of human trafficking and kidnapping.

He explained that he decided to send a direct message to Plumb as he ‘felt there was imminent threat to the female at the time’, with the defendant sending him an image described by the officer as an ‘abduction kit’.

‘Earlier in the conversation he had indicated he had chloroform,’ the man being referred to by the pseudonym David Nelson added.

‘It was not present in that photo of his abduction kit – I asked where the chloroform was and he sent a picture of chloroform.’

The officer outlined that he wasn’t aware of who Willoughby was, and that he passed on information about Plumb to the FBI, which resulted in contact with the Metropolitan Police.

A US police officer working undercover is also said to have found the suspect in an ‘Abduct lovers’ online group, where he boasted about his plans for Willoughby.

Going by ‘BigBear’, Plumb claimed he had ‘loads of info’ on the star which included timings for her security and ‘what time she gets up in the morning’, the court was told.

The court was told that Plumb was ‘shocked’ when told he was being held over a conspiracy to kidnap the TV presenter, saying she was ‘a fantasy of mine’.

Jurors were also told more than 10,000 images of her were found on his phone.
