Gypsy Rose Blanchard – known for planning the murder of her mother in 2015 after being subjected to years of medical abuse at her hands – just announced that she’s pregnant.

Blanchard first broke the news in a video titled I’m Pregnant, My Journey So Far on her YouTube channel.

She says in the video: ‘I know the rumors have been flying around for quite some time now and I’m happy to announce that I am 11 weeks pregnant.’

She also addresses concerns that the trauma from her mother will inhibit her ability to be a parent, saying later in the video: ‘I know that there are going to be people who feel like I’m not ready to be a mother, and I don’t know if anyone’s really ready to be a mother.’

Blanchard was released from prison on December 28, 2023 after pleading guilty to second degree murder and serving seven years of a 10-year-sentence.

In 2015 Gypsy asked her then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn to stab her mum Clauddine ‘Dee Dee’ Blanchard to death, which he did, while she waited in another room.

Prior to the murder, Dee Dee spent several years convincing her daughter that she was sick with various illnesses when she wasn’t and forced her to undergo painful surgeries, take medication and use a wheel chair.

Gypsy met Godejohn – who is serving life without parole – online in 2012 and told him about her mother’s abuse and together they formed a plan to kill her.

Gypsy’s story was the subject of the 2019 US Hulu documentary The Act, which revealed the years of abuse Dee Dee subjected her daughter to and the many lies she told to make people believe Gypsy was sick.

Dee Dee alleged that Gypsy Rose had leukemia, asthma, muscular dystrophy and an allergy to sugar, while complications during a premature birth left her with brain damage, resulting in her having the mental capacity of a seven-year-old. She shaved her daughter’s head on a regular basis to make her look like she had undergone chemotherapy, and forced Gypsy Rose to use a wheelchair – despite her not actually needing one.

According to Gypsy Rose’s cousin Bobby, she began using a wheelchair after she suffered an abrasion to her knee after being involved in a minor motorcycle accident aged seven. Dee Dee allegedly claimed that the abrasion was the sign of underlying injuries that would need surgery.

Dee Dee’s fabrications convinced many, and the pair were given free tickets to Disney World, backstage passes to concerts and media attention, with Habitat for Humanity even building the family a home with a wheelchair ramp and a hot tub.

And in 2012, Gypsy Rose – then 21 – met Nicholas Godejohn on the internet. The pair grew close, with Gypsy Rose later telling a neighbour that they were considering eloping. In 2013, Gypsy Rose organised for Nicholas to visit her home in Springfield, Missouri, when they began their sexual relationship. They also began planning Dee Dee’s murder.

In June 2015, Godejohn came to the Blanchard house while Dee Dee was asleep, with Gypsy Rose allegedly giving him a knife, gloves and duct tape before she hid in a bathroom.

She claims that she didn’t think Nicholas would carry out the act. However, he stabbed Dee Dee to death, before having sex with Gypsy Rose and fleeing to Wisconsin.
