The "Legend of the White Snake" is one of the widely circulated folk stories in ancient China. according to the legend, a white snake named "Bai Suzhen" descended to the human world and married Xu Xian. However, their marriage was opposed by the Buddhist monk Fahai, who believed that humans and evil spirits could not unite. Consequently, Fahai imprisoned Bai Suzhen under Leifeng Pagoda. Years later, Bai Suzhen's son became the top scholar (Zhuangyuan title) and knelt before the pagoda to pray for his mother.
